Claude Code v2.1.311 has been released. The update adds "--hold-idle-file" and "--max-hold-min" to self-hosted-runner to keep an idle session while the host reports running processes. A tip for the Explanatory output style, shown when asking Claude for explanations, was also added.

Bug fixes include long freezes at startup or after reading/editing files when a CLAUDE.md file contains a very long list item. It also fixes an issue where interrupting Claude would not take effect until a timeout occurred while an MCP server had not answered a resource read or a skill was downloading. Additionally, standard-context sessions that stopped with "Usage credits required for 1M context" when a request exceeded 200K tokens have been fixed; Claude Code now compacts the conversation and continues.

Other fixes address Write and Edit stalling for up to 5 seconds and reporting 0 lines changed when modifying thousands of lines, and subagents being unable to use MCP tools from servers that finish connecting after the subagent starts. Further fixes include Claude seeing stale MEMORY.md and CLAUDE.md content after automatic compaction, transcript messages being saved out of order or keeping retracted messages in claude -p and SDK sessions, SubagentStop hooks running about twice a minute instead of once, and the @ file picker ignoring .ignore / .
